At last the summer has appeared, bringing with it very welcome warm sunny weather. It has been a difficult year to date being that we lost the spring thus losing our germination period with it, but the good news is things have started to move on.
I am now cutting the playing areas at their summer heights which I will adjust throughout the summer to maintain a healthy sward. The fairways have been treated with a weed and feed, as well as the tees.
Due to the fact that we have been so dry, the rough has not been a problem and even the tiger rough is not too dense which has not been the case for the last few years. Hopefully we should see some of the finer grasses start to dominate the tiger rough.
The greens are now starting too turn around, we are seeing more Bent grasses starting to establish and also a noticeable drop in the amount of disease. We are now topdressing and aerating once a month, this is working well with very little disturbance to the surface. over the next few weeks the tees and surrounds will be verti cut to try and reduce the Rye grass stalks.
For those of you who play tennis the courts have now been cleaned and re-painted all ready for Wimbledon!!
